Back in December, Patricia submitted a writing portfolio of 10 pieces to Scholastic Art & Writing. She was awarded several writing awards! She won a Gold Key for her critical essay (“Redefining America: Utopian Ideas in American Enlightenment”) which will go on to compete on a national level. (The winners are announced in March.) I tease her that they probably gave her the gold for the title.
She also won several regional awards: two Silver Keys for her short story (“Zoe”) and for her entire writing portfolio, as well as an Honorable Mention for her humor piece (“The Misfortunes of a Kidnapper: A New Fairy Tale”).
Congratulations, Patricia! Not too shabby for a homeschooler. ;) It’s exciting to watch your gift with the pen grow. It’s encouraging as a homeschool mama to see you flourish. It’s a blessing to see the gift of friendship from your co-op literature teacher, Mrs. B, spur you on. I can’t wait to see how God will use you, Patricia, in the years to come!
Oh, and if you want to read any of Patricia’s pieces, feel free to message me!
Update 3/13/19: Patricia won a National Silver Medal for her critical essay. Way to go!!!
